James Ngugi, 37 years, has been ranked 8th in the world in lawn bawling after competing in the Champion of Champions championship in Ayr Scotland where he represented Kenya.

He missed only 2 points to qualifying for the quarter finals having beaten Scotland, Portugal, Philippines, Japan, and Cyprus among others.

He and Susan Wambugu, the ladies single champion and a member of the Nairobi Club represented Kenya in the competition from 21st to the 28th of July. Susan was ranked the 10th in the World.

James is the national single men lawn bowling champion in Kenya.

He has been greatly supported by the Kenya Bowling Association and the Kenyan Bowlers who raised money for his ticket to Scotland and his stay there. The Limuru Lawn Bowlers, in all, especially Jenni and Willi Watson as well as Marcus, offered their time in coaching and training him. The other National lawn bowlers from Nairobi, Karen and Muthaiga raised funds through social tournaments and raffles in order to raise money for the trip.

The Bowlers were pleased by his achievement and feted him at a luncheon at the Limuru Country club where James thanked them for their support. They are continuing their fund raising and support in order to send James to the next great event; the African State Tournament in which African countries; South Africa, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and Kenya, Zambia and Malawi will compete in order to qualify for the World Bowls that will be held in Australia in 2012.

The African State Tournament will be held in Swaziland from 29th August to 6 September. He will also represent Kenya in Norfolk Island, Australia in November 2010, in the Worlds Champion of Champion tournament next year.
